Your Secret Weapon for Business Success

Howdy! In today’s blog post, I want to talk about the character trait that helps you adapt, overcome setbacks, and keep moving forward toward success: resilience.

Resilience is essential for success in life and business. It pushes us to keep going and be emotionally and physically tough. It lets us wake up excited about each new day. And it drives us to pursue our organization’s goals.

As a resilient business person, you need to:
A) Be tough.
B) Be willing to stay in on bad days and endure them.
C) Not get too high on the good days.
D) Not put yourself on an emotional rollercoaster day in and day out.

Here’s a lesson about resilience that’s kept me going through the hardest days: It’s not about pretending things are always easy or ignoring the struggle—it’s about accepting the tough moments and persisting anyway. When things get tough, resiliency becomes most valuable. It’s how you choose to show up.

Here are my tips on how I’ve built resilience in the 20+ years of running my own company:

1. Embrace setbacks: Think of setbacks as an opportunity to learn and grow.
2. Stay focused on the bigger picture: Success is a long game, and difficult days are just a small part of the journey.
3. Be optimistic and real: Don’t let the challenges consume you and distract you from your growth. Remain positive yet realistic.

Remember that resiliency is an earned characteristic. The more you exercise it, the better you become at it. Progress isn’t always linear, but commitment and dedication can go a long way.

Important Question to Ask Yourself This Week:

What is a challenge I am currently facing? How can I practice resilience while handling it?
