The Secret to Innovation—Unhinging Your Brain

Howdy! In today’s blog post, I want to discuss the power of rethinking and how challenging your own assumptions can fuel innovation.

Something to know about me: I like things that unhinge my brain. I actually enjoy things that make me rethink everything I thought I knew, and I welcome anything that challenges my perspective on reality.

I know that when I’m upset by an idea, real growth happens. My biggest breakthroughs come when I’m pushed to rethink what I assumed to be true. It’s easy for us to get comfortable with our views, but we all know comfort is the enemy of progress.

Some of the most innovative companies and people I’ve met aren’t just problem solvers; they are also problem finders. They welcome flaws in their thinking and embrace being wrong. They challenge themselves on best practices and push boundaries.

In any industry, the ability to rethink separates the disruptors from the disrupted. Today’s tools and technology were created because someone wasn’t happy with the status quo. They saw inefficiencies and refused to accept them as they were.

Learning new perspectives sparks innovation and keeps me on my toes in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

Important Question to Ask Yourself This Week:

What is one “best practice” in your work that you’ve never questioned? What happens if you rethink it?
