Tech Talk: Submarines Get Personal, Working on Winterfell, Progressive Power Tools, & More

Listen to This

Check out this week’s construction tech news with myself, Rob McKinney and Josh Bone, and our interview with special guest Larry Sullivan, CEO of COINS.

Tech to Try

DeWalt FlexVolt

DeWalt is changing the game with their new FlexVolt system. They have created the world’s first battery pack that changes voltage as you change tools, making it compatible with both the 60V MAX line, as well as any 20V MAX tools you already own. Even better? You can double up the batteries for 120 volts to operate larger tools. Get one here!

Notable New Tech

Submarines Get Personal

The Dragon is DeepFlight’s first personal submarine to offer complete freedom to cruise alongside sea creatures or to stop and hover over ancient shipwrecks. It has been created with novice users in mind so the controls consist of a strikingly simple lever and joystick. Their goal is to allow everyone the opportunity to explore the sea, but with a price tag of $1.5 million we’re still a ways off from that. For now, you can rent one at select upscale resorts. Working on Winterfell

Calling all Game of Thrones fans! Yekaterinburg Cement Factory, located in Russia, is currently recreating Winterfell on their grounds to showcase the use of new technologies like 3D printing, as well as their love for the show. The company is using a gigantic industrial-sized cement 3D printer to pour liquid cement around segments of a steel frame, with 3 supervisors charged with completing the project. It is expected to be completed and open to the public before the end of the month. Learn more.

Progressive Power Tools

Another hot new power tool will soon be hitting the market. The Shaper Origin is an augmented reality power tool that uses a blueprint from your computer to vision guide your cuts on a variety of materials. Prototyping has never been easier. It begins shipping in September 2017. Learn more.

“Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along. “
