Beating Murphy’s Law with Mentorship By James Benham Howdy! In today’s blog post, I want to discuss the power of mentorship in business. This topic is especially important to me because I learned many years ago that starting a business is no walk in the park. Entrepreneurship has many challenges, and if there is one constant, it’s that Murphy’s Law—anything that can go wrong will go wrong—is always waiting around the corner. Often, the right advice at the right time can make a massive difference in someone’s career trajectory. This is where mentorship becomes invaluable. Yet, mentorship is often underestimated, especially at the college classroom level. Mentors provide more than just guidance; they are your compass through the chaos. They’ve been through what you are expected to go through and came out on top. They are the reason many of us have thrived in the unpredictable world of entrepreneurship. If I can lend you one piece of advice heading into 2025,—whether you’re a student, aspiring entrepreneur, or a corporate innovator—don’t underestimate the value of a mentor. Start 2025 off strong and seek out a mentor in your field, listen to their stories and challenges and let their advice guide you toward your business goals. Important Question to Ask Yourself This Week: If I had a mentor today, what challenges or opportunities would I seek their guidance on?
