Fast forward to 2012 and enter COSA. The group, initially spearheaded by JB Knowledge,www.jbknowledge.com, Bryan, Texas, is also focusing on open standards with partners that include To-Scale Software, www.toscaleplans.com, Cincinnati, Ohio, eSUB, www.esubinc.com, San Diego, Calif., and Sage North America, www.na.sage.com, Beaverton, Ore. The group is looking to demonstrate open-standards based software integration.

Certainly, other efforts for software interoperability are also making an impact on the construction industry. Take the Construction Software Alliance as an example. Such group members include Anterra, www.anterra.com, Dallas, Texas, Core Associates,www.core-assoc.com, Jupiter, Fla., Event 1 Software, www.event1software.com, Vancouver, Wash., hh2, www.hh2.com, Centerville, Utah, and Piracle, www.piracle.com, Salt Lake City, Utah.
